The Story of Diamond J Ranch

Welcome to our family farm!

Both JR and Melissa are first generation agriculture lovers. Neither of us grew up around farming or livestock, which gives us a unique advantage to help those of you traveling down the same path. We love to help educate those seeking to learn more.

Melissa’s horse fund started with saving soda cans since the age of three. The horse obsession never left and at the age of ten her parents helped her purchase her first horse. She was able to pay for half by saving .10 cents at a time. From there she went on to qualify for the NBHA Youth World Championships 8 years in a row and placing in the finals in 2004. She attended Michigan State University for Equine Management, followed by two different internships under World Champion barrel horse trainers. She now loves to help the younger generation learn how to ride and get started in the barrel racing world.

JR’s love of cattle began at a young age where he heavily showed 4H dairy cows. He loved caring for the calves and field work in the tractors. He continued his education at Michigan State University for Dairy Management. After our move to northern Michigan and away from the farm he decided to start his own beef heard. He hopes to be able to feed our community with high quality home grown beef in a few short years.

Diamond J Ranch was a childhood dream for the both of us. The name has been in JR’s head since he fell in love with farming years ago, and the J connects us in so many different ways. We are so thankful that God has led us down this path together and placed us in the heart of this beautiful state we get to call home.

Thank you for being here with us, and thank you for playing a part in making our childhood dreams become a reality.
